Achieving a Feminine Look in a Plus Size Dress

Women with fuller figures might think that dresses are not for them. But the growing market for bigger, fuller figures has provided more choices from which full size women can choose. Bigger size dresses are easier to find now and bigger women just have to pick the right one. A plus size dress that’s comfortable and flattering to the full figure is the best choice.

A plus size dress doesn’t have to be boring, shapeless and always black. Although black does make a person look slimmer; still, color variation in your wardrobe would be nicer. Besides, if the season you’re shopping for is summer, black is not on the top of the appropriate color list.

Because of the fine fabrics and the feminine cuts of dresses, some people think that plus size women will not look good in them. This, of course, is not true. There are dresses that will fit even a full figured woman and make her look feminine; the key is in the details of the dress.

Floral dresses are generally not recommended for bigger women, but if it’s summer, why not wear one. To avoid looking ungainly, choose floral dresses with minimum prints or with flowers spaced widely. The background should be more dominant than the flower prints. Don’t choose floral dresses that have small, cutesy flowers; the small prints will bring into focus your size and will make you look bigger.

For a more formal attire, choose evening dresses that will emphasize your best assets and tone down the excess. For example, a boatneck dress will help trim down your waist and hips and emphasize your shoulders; but if you have broad shoulders, this design is not an option. Generally, a V-necked dress is still best for a full figure.

If you decided to wear a slitted dress, consider the position of the slit in connection with your legs. If your legs are fuller outside, a back or middle-front slit will be best; if your legs are fuller inside, opt for a side slitted dress. For fabrics, avoid the clingy, shiny types. These fabrics will cling to the wrong parts and add bulk and girth.

A plus size dress can be as flattering as a regular size dress. Women with full figures can look very feminine and beautiful in a well designed and tailored dress. She just needs to choose wisely and wear what she had chosen confidently and proudly.
